FAQ 1: Historical Statistics

Question

Why is a metric in my historical report not reporting the correct value?

Answer

The metric in the historical report may be broken down by a dimension that is causing unexpected values to be reported. To understand the effect of dimensions on reported metric values, see Effect of Adding a Dimension to a Custom Historical Report. Remove all dimensions from the report and see if the metric returns the correct value against known data through storm. If the value is correct, they may be an issue with the metric itself.

If you suspect a problem with the metric itself, consider how the metric is built by looking at items such as its filters on raw historical data, aggregate fields, or other metrics. Do this by using the metric's or button in the Report Builder's Metric Selector panel.

It is recommended that you follow the Metric Design Strategy to help ensure that your metrics report the correct values.
